Governor Polis Celebrates Colorado StartUp Week, Encourages Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
Rezul News/10745685
DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis kicked off the 15th annual Colorado StartUp Week today, joining a diverse group of entrepreneurs, investors, and creatives to celebrate the state's thriving startup community.
During his speech at the event, Governor Polis emphasized the unique entrepreneurial spirit that drives Colorado's economy. "Coloradans are building some of the most successful companies in the world out of garages, basements, and coworking spaces right here in our state," he said. "That's the spirit of Colorado StartUp Week - taking risks and chasing ideas with no guarantee of success."
The Venture Capital Authority (VCA), supported by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, has played a crucial role in supporting local entrepreneurs and startups. In 2025 alone, the VCA contributed over $8 million to help these businesses access the funding they need to grow. This investment directly led to the creation of 365 jobs and helped these companies leverage an additional $53 million in funding.

Since its inception in 2005, the VCA has invested a total of $81.9 million in VCA funds to support 111 Colorado companies. These investments have had a significant impact on job creation and retention across the state, with a total of 1,903 jobs supported.
Despite a national slowdown in venture capital activity, Colorado saw an impressive $7.4 billion in invested capital and recorded 401 deals in 2025. This growth can be attributed to Colorado's strength in tech-supported sectors such as cleantech, climatetech, aerospace, and bioscience. In fact, these industries have consistently ranked Colorado among the top 10 states for total VC investment.
Furthermore, cities like Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Fort Collins have consistently ranked among the top five for startup density. This further solidifies Colorado's position as a leading national innovation hub.
As Colorado StartUp Week continues, it is clear that the state's entrepreneurial spirit and supportive ecosystem will continue to drive innovation and growth in the years to come.
