Texas: Governor Abbott Issues Severe Storm Disaster Proclamation In June 2026

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has declared a state of disaster in 114 counties due to severe storms that began on June 14, 2026. The storms have caused widespread and severe property damage, injuries, and loss of life.

The Governor's proclamation states that the affected counties are experiencing heavy rainfall, flash flooding, hazardous wind gusts, large hail, and tornado threats. These conditions have resulted in significant damage and danger to the residents of Angelina, Aransas, Atascosa, Austin, Bandera, Bastrop, Bee, Bell, Bexar, Blanco, Brazoria, Brazos, Brooks, Burleson and many more.

In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a state of disaster in these counties. This declaration gives him the authority to use all available resources of state government and political subdivisions to cope with the disaster.

Furthermore, under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has authorized the suspension of any regulatory statute or order that may hinder necessary action in response to this disaster. This includes any state agency's emergency response efforts that are necessary to protect life or property.

The Governor's proclamation also states that copies will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law. It is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
