Texas: Governor Abbott Amends, Renews Drought Disaster Proclamation In June 2026
Rezul News/10738082
~ Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster in 150 counties in Texas due to ongoing drought conditions and increased wildfire danger. The proclamation, issued on June 16, 2026, amends and renews a previous disaster proclamation from July 8, 2022.
The initial disaster proclamation was issued after the Governor received confirmation from the Texas Division of Emergency Management that exceptional drought conditions posed a threat of imminent disaster in several counties. Since then, the division has confirmed that these same conditions persist in certain counties and contribute to an increased risk of wildfires.
In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in Aransas, Armstrong, Atascosa, Bailey, Bandera, Bastrop, Bee, Bexar, Blanco, Borden, Bowie, Brewster, Briscoe, Burnet, Caldwell and many other counties. This declaration authorizes the use of all available resources of state government and political subdivisions to cope with the disaster.

Furthermore, pursuant to Section 418.016 of the Texas Government Code, any regulatory statute or order that would hinder necessary action in response to this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval from the Office of the Governor. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts.
The Governor's proclamation also states that copies will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law. It is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
This declaration comes as no surprise as Texas has been experiencing severe drought conditions for several years now. The state has also seen an increase in wildfires during this time period. By declaring a state of disaster and authorizing the use of all available resources to cope with it, Governor Abbott hopes to mitigate any potential damage caused by these ongoing conditions.
Residents living in these affected counties are advised to stay informed about any updates or evacuation orders from local authorities. The Governor's proclamation serves as a reminder to take necessary precautions and be prepared for any potential emergencies that may arise.
