Spokane: Construction Will Require Temporary Browne Street Lane Reductions
Rezul News/10745542
~ Construction for the Pacific Avenue Greenway project is set to begin this week, as announced by Kirstin Davis, Communications Manager for the City of Spokane. The project aims to create a new east-west bike route from Howard Street to Sherman Street, with the goal of improving pedestrian safety and connecting downtown Spokane to the University District.
The enhancements planned for this project include the addition of bike lanes, pedestrian crosswalks, green space, and updates to traffic signals. These improvements are expected to make the area more accessible and safer for both cyclists and pedestrians.
In order to facilitate the construction process, drivers traveling through downtown Spokane on Browne Street between Main Avenue and Pacific Avenue will experience scheduled lane reductions starting tonight, September 14th. This initial phase of the project is estimated to last until approximately October 9th.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra time when traveling through this area. They should also be prepared for frequent traffic changes and reduced speeds in the construction zone. The City urges drivers to slow down for everyone's safety and make an extra effort to support businesses that may be impacted by these necessary projects.

During weekdays between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m., drivers traveling southbound on Browne Street will be merged into two lanes from Main Avenue through Pacific Avenue. However, Browne Street will open back up to four southbound lanes between Pacific Avenue and 4th Avenue. Additionally, Pacific Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Division Street and McClellan Street during this time.
Overnight during weekdays between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., drivers traveling southbound on Browne Street will be merged into one lane from Main Avenue through Pacific Avenue. Again, Browne Street will open back up to four southbound lanes between Pacific Avenue and 4th Avenue during these hours. However, Pacific Avenue will remain closed to through traffic between Division Street and McClellan Street.
The City has provided a map of the lane reductions on Brown Street and Pacific Avenue for reference. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained throughout the construction process, and the public is reminded to make an extra effort to support these businesses.
The City of Spokane is committed to keeping residents informed about any obstructions or changes that may impact drivers in the area. More information can be found on the construction webpage. The project is expected to greatly benefit the community by creating a safer and more connected downtown area.
