Public Assistance Approved for Colorado's Major Disaster Declaration
Rezul News/10744734
DENVER ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Jared Polis revealed that President Donald Trump has approved Public Assistance (PA) for Colorado's Major Disaster Declaration (MDD) request. This federal assistance will provide support to communities recovering from the Aspen Acres Fire in Pueblo, Custer, and Dolores Counties, as well as the Gold Mountain Fire in Ouray County.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for the approval of PA, stating that it will help communities clear debris and repair damage to public infrastructure. He also emphasized the importance of removing debris from destroyed homes and buildings in order to begin the process of rebuilding. The governor thanked President Trump for approving Colorado's request and also acknowledged FEMA for their collaboration during the application process.
The PA portion of Colorado's MDD request has been approved, allowing the state's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) to work closely with FEMA, local governments, and affected communities to implement assistance for those impacted by the fires.

While PA has been approved, Colorado's requests for Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Funding are still under review. Governor Polis expressed hope that these requests will also be approved soon.
The Aspen Acres and Gold Mountain Fires have caused significant damage to these communities, but Governor Polis commended their strength in facing this disaster. He also recognized the bipartisan efforts of Colorado's congressional delegation, local leaders, elected officials, first responders, utility providers, business owners, nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and disaster survivors who supported this request.
The governor concluded by stating that Colorado made a strong case for this declaration and he is grateful for everyone who worked together on behalf of these affected communities during this time of need. With federal assistance now available through PA approval, these communities can begin their recovery process promptly and at no cost to homeowners.
