Miss Beloit Organizes Event to Foster STEM Careers for Underserved Communities through Video Games

BELOIT, Wis. - Rezul -- Angelica Chapman-Sykes, the newly crowned Miss Beloit, understands that knowing what technology careers are available and how to get into them isn't always fun and games. Chapman-Sykes, who currently works in the video game industry for PUBG Madison, understands the significance of diversity in her male-dominated field. In a passionate effort to promote inclusivity and encourage underrepresented populations to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), she has launched a community service initiative titled "Game Changers: Diversifying STEM Through Video Game Development." This initiative aims to facilitate gaming workshops for young individuals, fostering diversity and inclusivity in the STEM fields. As such, she will be hosting the first in a series of events on June 13, 2023 at Hendricks CareerTek, a dedicated Beloit-based organization offering comprehensive career exploration, development, and opportunities for youth.

For this event, Chapman-Sykes has partnered with Madison-based Filament Games and PUBG Madison. Filament Games is a renowned global leader in creating award-winning educational video games that make a positive impact. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is a highly popular multiplayer battle royale game that is recognized globally. During the day-long affair, Filament Games will introduce attendees to the vast array of careers available in game-based learning, showcasing how video games can be utilized to effect positive change in the world. PUBG Madison will have a presentation showcasing the ins and outs of the video game industry.
