Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County Planned for August 6
Rezul News/10742157
ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 5, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. In cooperation with the Prince George's County Health Department, the MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying in Landover Hills on the evening of Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The spraying will take place after 9:00 p.m. ET and will use a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs. However, as a precautionary measure, the MDA recommends that residents avoid outdoor activities during the spraying.

According to MDA officials, this expansion of mosquito control services is necessary due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases in the area. Any existing spray exemptions in Landover Hills will be temporarily suspended during this time.
While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, the MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. This includes wearing long, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and using insect repellents according to product labels. It is also recommended to avoid mosquito-infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn), regularly clean bird baths and pet bowls for water and food, and remove or empty any water-holding containers.
Residents can find routine spray program schedules by county on the MDA's website and are encouraged to contact the Mosquito Control Program at (410) 841-5870 with any questions or concerns. In case of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for Friday, August 7, 2026.
