BOISE, Idaho ~ Idaho Governor Brad Little has announced the creation of the Governor's Working Group on College Athletics, a targeted effort to address the changing landscape of national collegiate athletics and ensure that Idaho's four-year institutions remain competitive.

The working group, chaired by Idaho Falls businessman Cortney Liddiard, will focus on gathering input from athletics departments at each of the state's public universities. Their goal is to identify state and local policy solutions and investment opportunities that are tailored to the specific needs of each institution.

Governor Little emphasized the importance of Idaho's colleges and universities in delivering value to students, communities, and the economy. He stated that their athletics programs are a significant part of this value and that it is crucial for Idaho not to be left behind as changes occur in the national collegiate athletics scene.

In addition to Liddiard, the working group includes several prominent members such as Kurt Liebich, President of the Idaho State Board of Education; Senator Lori Den Hartog, Senate Majority Leader for the Idaho Senate; Representative Jason Monks, Majority Leader of the Idaho House of Representatives; Troy V. Bell, President and CEO of TanaBell Health Services and Founder, President, and CEO of Black Label Supplements; Mark Miller, CEO of Miller Family Holdings and former Chairman of the Board of Idaho First Bank; Debbie Hetherington, retired owner and partner at Premier Insurance and former Board Member for the University of Idaho Foundation; and Mike Tatko, Community Relations Manager for Avista Utilities in the Lewis-Clark region and member of the Lewis-Clark State College Foundation Board.

While federal reforms are being explored by the White House and Congress, this working group will focus on what can be done at the state and local level. They will review efforts being made in other states before evaluating their feasibility and potential impact. The group will then present their recommendations to Governor Little in September on strategies that support long-term competitiveness and sustainability for intercollegiate athletics in Idaho.

The Governor's Working Group on College Athletics is a proactive step towards ensuring that Idaho's universities and their athletics programs continue to thrive in the ever-changing landscape of collegiate sports. Their findings and recommendations are eagerly awaited by the Governor and the people of Idaho.
