ATLANTA ~ Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has amended and extended the state of emergency to waive state penalties for selling, delivering or using dyed diesel fuel in on-road vehicles.

The waiver applies for the duration of the emergency and is intended to provide additional relief to truckers and farmers, according to Kemp's office. The order also continues the suspension of the state motor fuel tax and the removal of state weight limits on commercial vehicles. The emergency measures are now set to run through Nov. 5.

Kemp said the measures were intended to help farmers, truckers and Georgians who rely on the goods they produce and transport. He said he was grateful for support from legislative leaders.

The governor said he amended the order in consultation with Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, House Speaker Jon Burns and Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper.

According to AAA figures cited in the announcement, Georgia's average price for regular gasoline fell by about 33 cents per gallon in the week after the state suspended its motor fuel tax. The average diesel price declined by more than 42 cents over the same period. Georgia's average regular-gas price was 51 cents below the national average, the announcement said.
