TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 25 counties as the state prepares for potential impacts from Tropical Depression Nine, which is expected to strengthen in the coming days.

The counties covered by the order are Baker, Bay, Calhoun, Columbia, Dixie, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Suwannee, Taylor, Walton, Wakulla and Washington.

The Florida State Emergency Response Team is mobilizing supplies, including generators, fuel, flood barriers, drinking water, shelf-stable meals, tarps and sandbags. The state said resources would be staged in Tallahassee and the Santa Rosa area.
The current forecast cited by the state indicates a tropical storm or hurricane could make landfall along the central Gulf Coast later this week. North Florida could face heavy rain, strong winds, coastal flooding and isolated tornadoes, with additional rainfall potentially increasing flash-flood risk after recent significant rain, the state said.
