Entourage Yearbooks Launches AI Photo Tagging to Close the Yearbook Coverage Gap
Rezul News/10745629
New facial recognition tools match candid photos against a school's own portrait roster, producing a per-student coverage index — and surfacing students who were already in the photos but never identified
PRINCETON, N.J. - Rezul -- Entourage Yearbooks today announced general availability of AI photo tagging, a set of tools that automatically identifies students in candid yearbook photos and reports how many times each student appears in the book.
The feature addresses a problem every yearbook staff knows and few can measure. Across the books Entourage prints, roughly 10 to 25 percent of students are underrepresented — and in most cases the photographs exist. They sit untagged in the school's own uploads because identifying every face in every crowd shot by hand is work no volunteer staff has time to do.
AI photo tagging works in two steps. The system first trains on the school's existing portrait pages, using each student's portrait as that student's reference image. Advisers then run automatic tagging across a photo category or the entire book; the system detects faces in each candid and matches them to the trained roster. Results feed a Photo Index of per-student appearance counts, with a filter to count only photos already placed on a page.

Matching is scoped to a single yearbook and limited to the roster the school itself provides. The system does not generate images, cannot identify anyone outside the school's own portrait data, and presents every tag for adviser review. The trained face collection is deleted once the book is published.
"Facial recognition is a powerful tool, and one that requires great care and security. We've taken extensive measures to make sure our AI tagging does one thing — make life easier for yearbook advisers and their staffs — without anyone having to worry about that data being used for anything else," said Elias Jo, Founder and CTO of Entourage Yearbooks.
AI photo tagging entered production in June 2026 and is available now to Entourage Yearbooks schools as an upgrade to the company's online design platform. The Photo Index is included for all Entourage schools.
