Columbia Fire Department responds to residential structure fire, Aug. 6

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ At 11:04 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, the Columbia Fire Department (CFD) received a call about a residential structure fire in the 2300 block of Bluff Creek Drive. Within three minutes, CFD companies arrived at the scene to find smoke coming from a single-story home with a basement.
Without hesitation, firefighters entered the home to search for any occupants and locate the source of the smoke. After thorough investigation, they discovered that the fire originated in the furnace area between the basement and first floor of the house. The fire was quickly contained and efforts were made to ventilate the home and clear out any remaining smoke.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from this incident. It is believed that a lightning strike caused the fire in the home. A total of five fire companies and two chief officers, consisting of 18 personnel, responded to this emergency call.
The quick response and efficient actions of CFD prevented any major damage or injuries from occurring in this residential fire. The cause of the lightning strike is still under investigation by authorities.
