DENVER ~ Denver - Governor Jared Polis expressed his condolences today on the passing of Sergeant Devin A. Seibel, who died on May 31, 2026 while serving in Iraq. The incident occurred during a training exercise at Erbil Air Base in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Sergeant Seibel was a member of the Air Ambulance Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division based in Fort Carson, Colorado. He dedicated his life to serving and protecting our nation and will be deeply missed by his family and fellow service members.

Governor Polis stated, "Colorado is grateful for Sergeant Devin Seibel's unwavering commitment to our country's security and safety. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Seibel family in Colorado Springs and all those who served alongside him. Every day, our military members make tremendous sacrifices for our nation's well-being, and Sergeant Seibel exemplified bravery in his service to Colorado and our country."

The governor also announced that once the Seibel family determines a memorial date, flags will be lowered to half-staff across the state in honor of Sergeant Seibel's service. Governor Polis awaits a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.
