City of Fishers celebrates end of school year by awarding nearly $90K to local educators

~ As the school year draws to a close, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness made a special visit to local classrooms to recognize and award over $88,500 in funding through the City of Fishers' Educator Innovation Grant program. This program, which was launched in 2024, aims to provide educators within HSE Schools with the financial resources needed to bring innovation into their classrooms and inspire students to think outside the box when it comes to learning. Since its inception, the City has awarded a total of 28 grants amounting to $473,093 in support of classroom innovation.

The grants have been distributed across all grade levels within the district and have helped launch various innovative projects such as makerspaces, STEM programs, virtual reality experiences, film and media courses, and English as a New Language (ENL) programs. In addition, funds have also been allocated for professional development opportunities for teachers.

The latest round of grant recipients focuses on expanding technology at both local high schools. Among the recipients are Jeffrey Fronius from Fishers High School's Engineering Department who received $13,900 to purchase a laser cutter. This tool will allow students to fabricate and design onsite instead of having to leave the school for hands-on experience. It will also be integrated into engineering courses within the Project Lead the Way curriculum and will benefit the FRC #5010 Tiger Dynasty Robotics Team.

Braden Tribolet and Adam Good from Fishers High School's Media & Marketing Department were awarded $59,854 to modernize equipment in their growing media program. This includes tools such as drones, podcasting equipment, professional-grade cameras, and stabilization equipment that will enable students to explore emerging media formats and build competitive portfolios that align with industry expectations.

Lisa Brown from Fishers High School's Photography & Yearbook department received $12,933 for two professional-grade cameras. These cameras will be used by students for capturing content for the yearbook, the student-run newspaper, social media channels, and district-wide art shows. This will provide students with access to high-quality equipment and prepare them for future careers in visual arts and media.

Risa Petty from Hamilton Southeastern High School was awarded $1,820 to create a switch-accessible Office & Garden Work Zone for the Special Education Department. This project aims to build vocational independence, work habits, and community transferable skills for students with limited motor control. By using switch-activated tools that simulate real-world office and garden routines, these students will have the opportunity to perform tasks just like their peers and gain valuable experience for future careers.

The grants are awarded by a selection committee consisting of former educators from HSE Schools, community entrepreneurs, and HSE alumni. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with no funding cap for project requests. The next round of grants will be awarded in fall 2026.
