NEW YORK - March 15, 2019 - Rezul -- [NEW YORK, NY] SR Socially Relevant Film Festival 2019 (SRFF 2019) brings in its Sixth Edition with international films, panels, and other events dedicated to social issues. Many of the 33 selected short films fall into thematic groups focusing on topics such as pollution and environment, drug addiction, women and choice, capital punishment, freedom, health issues and immigration across the border. SRFF 2019 starts on March 15, 2019, at Cinema Village. Tickets via Eventcombo.
Standout productions include California Girls, a short film by Laura Hinman. The film follows Tiffany Adams, an artist who expresses her enduring need to preserve her Native American culture through her paintings for which she uses her hair as a brush. I Am DACA is a short documentary by Bill Hellams, who teams up with Dream Action Oklahoma to interview 17 Dreamers. Wild Utah: America's Red Rock Wilderness, by Chris and Alex Lee, teaches us why we should protect Utah's remaining desert wild lands, and what can be done to preserve it.

Taylor (USA), details how modern beliefs and ideas are heavily manipulated by the social media platforms through which we consume information. Brian Corso's Public Figure (USA) grapples with the issues of appearance versus reality, and social media addiction, through the eyes and thumbs of social media influencers as. The Advocates deals with homelessness and Piripkura deals with cultural and human extinction.

SRFF 2019 opens tonight with the Australian sleeper The Merger, which was the audience favorite in australia in 2018. Highlights of SRFF 2019 include a documentary feature film on 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Denis Mukwege, called The Man Who Mends Women directed by Thierry Michel, followed by a panel on Women and Children in Conflict Zones, with the participation of distinguished panelists CSW chair Susan O'Malley, The Children of Panzi director Cathleen de Kerchove and more.
The narrative film slate offers six titles, the documentary feature slate has 14 films, and there are 32 shorts that complete the balance of 52 highly select films on offer. Industry workshops, panels and networking opportunities, not to forget parties and happy hours, make SRFF 2019 another unforgettable year.

SR Socially Relevant ™ Film Festival New York is a 501(c) 3 non-profit film festival founded by actress Nora Armani. The Mission of the SR Film Festival is to shine the spotlight on filmmakers who tell compelling, socially relevant™, human interest stories dealing with social issues. The mission of SRFF is the promotion of films and filmmakers that deal with socially relevant film content. In its first five years, the festival has successfully served as a platform for 287 films from 35 countries, has offered industry panels covering such topics as distribution, storytelling, diversity casting, funding, marketing, low budget filmmaking, filming in New York, and scriptwriting, and has presented over 40 awards to deserving talented filmmakers from all over the world and has helped them reach larger audiences year after year.
