Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Border Security Disaster Proclamation In February 2026

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed his disaster proclamation for a number of counties and state agencies affected by the ongoing surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border. The proclamation, originally issued on May 31, 2021, was amended in subsequent proclamations to include additional affected counties.
Under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott certified that the influx of individuals crossing the border posed an imminent threat of disaster for multiple counties and state agencies. This declaration has been renewed due to the continued existence of these conditions.
The renewed proclamation declares a state of disaster for a total of 77 counties, including Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, Brooks, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Coleman, Colorado, Crane, Crockett, Culberson and many others. It also applies to all state agencies affected by this disaster.

All orders and directions provided in the original proclamation and subsequent amendments remain in full force and effect. Copies of this proclamation will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law.
Governor Abbott signed the proclamation on February 16th, 2026 at his office in Austin. The Secretary of State Jane Nelson attested to it and affixed the Seal of State.
This renewal comes as Texas continues to face challenges at its southern border with Mexico. The ongoing surge has put a strain on resources and infrastructure in these affected counties and state agencies.
The Governor's office urges residents in these areas to stay informed and follow any orders or directions provided by local authorities. The situation at the border remains a top priority for Governor Abbott's administration as they work towards finding solutions to this ongoing crisis.
