Texas: Governor Abbott Highlights Maritime Labor At 93rd ILA Convention

~ Governor Greg Abbott, in his role as the leader of the state of Texas, delivered a speech at the 93rd Convention of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District today. During his address, Governor Abbott emphasized the economic opportunities that Texas offers to families and businesses, which has led to many people "Choosin' Texas" as their preferred location.

The Governor highlighted the significant contribution of Texas ports to the state's economy, generating over $700 billion annually and supporting 2.5 million jobs. He praised the men and women working at major deepwater ports along the Texas Gulf Coast for their skill, dedication, and hard work, which he believes embodies the spirit of Texas.

As part of his remarks, Governor Abbott presented a proclamation commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Port of Galveston. He also declared July 27, 2026 as International Longshoremen's Association Day in recognition of their essential role in maintaining a strong maritime industry in Texas.

The Governor was joined by ILA President Harold Daggett, ILA South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District President Alan Robb, Galveston Mayor John Paul Listowski, and other leaders from maritime labor organizations. They all came together to celebrate the Port of Galveston's proud history and acknowledge its crucial role in making Texas a leader in maritime trade.
