Texas: Governor Abbott Celebrates Law Enforcement Excellence At TGIA Conference

~ At the 35th Annual Texas Gang Investigators Association (TGIA) Conference, Governor Greg Abbott delivered a powerful speech and participated in an awards ceremony to honor outstanding law enforcement professionals. The event, held on Tuesday, recognized the hard work and dedication of these individuals in keeping communities safe from criminal gang activity.

In his remarks, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude on behalf of all Texans for the tireless efforts of law enforcement officers who often go unrecognized. He acknowledged that their work is crucial in protecting citizens from danger and emphasized the importance of being relentless in the pursuit of gangs across the state.

The Governor also highlighted the significant steps that Texas has taken to combat gang activity and hold repeat offenders accountable. He specifically mentioned the establishment of ten Texas Anti-Gang Centers, which promote collaboration among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors' offices. Additionally, he praised the landmark bail reform package he signed into law as the strongest in Texas history, which aims to keep dangerous criminals off the streets.

During the awards ceremony, Governor Abbott presented gubernatorial proclamations to honor recipients in various categories. Josh Cisneros and Ramon Lucero were recognized as Peace Officers of the Year, while Kimberly Yearwood received Corrections Officer of the Year. Laura Kennedy was named Crime Analyst of the Year, Isidro Martinez was honored as Probation Officer of the Year, and Russel Mayne was awarded Prosecutor of the Year.

The Governor also took a moment to recognize recipients of the John "Rocky" Dyer Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship assists officers in attending the TGIA Annual Conference by covering tuition costs.

Joining Governor Abbott at this event were other prominent law enforcement leaders from across Texas including Texas Department of Public Safety Colonel Freeman Martin, Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inspector General Lance Coleman, ATF Dallas Field Division Special Agent in Charge Brian Garner, and TGIA President Martin "Ringo" Deleon.
