Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Over $1.8 Million In Career Training Grants For Six Coastal Bend Area Schools
Rezul News/10736546
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that six schools in the Coastal Bend area have been awarded a total of $1,819,053 in Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). These grants will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs by providing funding for the purchase and installation of equipment to train 585 students for high-demand occupations.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in the future workforce, stating that "our most valuable investment is the opportunities we give to our young workforce." He believes that this grant funding will provide students with the necessary training to build a solid foundation for their future careers and keep Texas as an economic powerhouse.
TWC Chairman Joe Esparza also highlighted the significance of these grants, stating that they will allow schools to provide hands-on training that mirrors the modern workplace. He believes that this will equip students with technical skills needed to excel in high-demand fields such as nursing and electrical engineering.

- A $226,518 grant to Freer Independent School District (ISD) to train 162 students as licensed practical and vocational nurses in partnership with Del Mar College.

The equipment purchased through these grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
The JET grant awards for the current fiscal year have yet to be announced and will be published in the coming months. To learn more about TWC's JET grant program, visit their website.
