Rezul News/10727819
~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has declared a state of disaster in 105 counties due to ongoing drought conditions and increased wildfire danger. This proclamation, issued on February 16, 2026, amends and renews a previous disaster proclamation from July 8, 2022.

The initial disaster proclamation was issued after Governor Abbott determined that exceptional drought conditions posed an imminent threat in several counties. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that these conditions persist in certain areas and contribute to the heightened risk of wildfires.

In accordance with Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in Aransas, Atascosa, Austin, Bandera, Bastrop, Bee, Bexar, Blanco, Bowie, Brazos, Brewster, Brooks, Burleson, Burnet, Caldwell and many other counties. This declaration grants the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to cope with the disaster.

Furthermore, pursuant to Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott has authorized the suspension of any regulatory statutes or orders that may hinder necessary action in response to this disaster. This includes any state statutes or administrative rules regarding contracting or procurement that may impede emergency response efforts.

The Governor's proclamation also states that copies will be filed with applicable authorities as required by law. It is signed by Governor Abbott and attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.

This declaration serves as a call to action for all Texans to be vigilant and take necessary precautions during this time of heightened risk. The full text of the proclamation can be viewed on the Governor's website.

As drought conditions continue to persist in many parts of Texas and pose a threat to life and property, it is important for residents to stay informed and follow any safety measures put in place by local authorities. The state government will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide support where needed.
