Texas: Governor Abbott Activates State Emergency Response Resources Ahead Of Flood Threat
Rezul News/10737684
~ As severe weather and flash flooding threats loom over multiple regions of Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to ensure the safety of the state's residents. In a statement released today, Governor Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.
"The State of Texas is prepared to deploy all necessary resources to help local officials respond to potential severe weather and flash flooding across the state," said Governor Abbott. He emphasized the importance of monitoring local forecasts, creating an emergency plan, and following guidance from state and local officials.
According to the National Weather Service, an approaching cold front will bring rounds of thunderstorms across portions of the state through early next week. Flash flooding will be the primary threat in areas that receive repeated rounds of rainfall. The initial impact is expected in North and Northwest Texas before shifting eastward to cover Northeast and East Texas. Some storms may also produce heavy rainfall, localized flooding, damaging winds, and large hail.

In addition, tropical moisture associated with a broad area of low pressure is expected to reach the Texas Gulf early next week, increasing the chances for flash flooding in South and Southeast Texas. Texans should also be aware of potential heat index values reaching triple digits.
Governor Abbott has directed several state emergency response resources to support local severe weather response operations. These include Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1), personnel from the Texas Division of Emergency Management's State Incident Management Team and regional offices, as well as monitoring personnel from the Texas Department of Transportation.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will also be providing assistance with Game Wardens, rescue boat teams, and helicopters with hoist capability for water rescues. The Texas Department of Public Safety will have Highway Patrol Troopers on standby along with helicopters equipped for hoisting and a Tactical Marine Unit.
