Spokane Police Officers Arrest "Grave Robber"

Rezul News/10744769
~ Spokane, WA- On August 17th, 2026, officers were called to Holy Cross Cemetery at 7200 N. Wall St. after the Service Director reported a break-in at the mausoleum. According to Officer T. Leming, PIO, one of the niches had been broken into and items of sentimental value were taken.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the niche contained an urn and other sentimental items belonging to a family. A decorative screw that held a glass pane in place over the niche was also missing. Realizing the importance of potential evidence, officers asked cemetery employees if the glass could be carefully removed.

After successfully removing the glass, several latent prints were obtained by officers. These prints were then sent to Spokane County Forensics Unit for analysis. On August 28th, an SPD officer received an email from the forensics unit with the results of the latent prints and identified Travis B. Batt (44) as a suspect.
