Spokane Police Assist Spokane County With The Upriver Fire

~ Spokane, WA- On June 16th, multiple Spokane police officers responded to a mutual aid request from the Spokane County Sheriff's Office to assist with the Upriver fire. The wildfire, which was rapidly spreading, posed a threat to several homes and lives in the neighboring communities.

According to Officer T. Leming, PIO for the Spokane Police Department, officers worked alongside Spokane County Deputies to evacuate residents from danger zones. They went door to door, ensuring the safe removal of community members.

In addition to evacuations, SPD also assisted SCSO with road closures in order to prevent entry into hazardous areas. This allowed responders fighting the fire to have the necessary mobility to actively work on containing it.
