Spokane: City and Permittable Partner to Support Rebuilding After Wildfires

Rezul News/10747789
~ The City of Spokane and Permittable are offering free permit pre-screening to residents rebuilding homes after the August fires, under a partnership that will run for one year.

The fires damaged or destroyed about 577 structures, including 501 single-family homes within the city, according to the announcement. The resulting rebuilding effort has increased demand on Spokane's permitting system.

Permittable's Intake Completeness service lets homeowners, builders and design professionals check residential permit materials for missing documents, plan sheets and other completeness issues before submitting an application to the city. The city and company said they have aligned the service with Spokane's current residential submittal requirements.

Tami Palmquist, director of the City of Spokane Development Services Center, said the partnership provides another tool to help residents who lost their homes and supports the city's efforts to make rebuilding easier to navigate.

Permittable Chief Operating Officer Barry Alavi said the company contacted the city after learning about the challenges facing Spokane families. He said the service is intended to help applicants identify gaps before submission.

Use of the service is voluntary and does not change the city's permitting process. Applicants must still submit applications directly to the city, whose staff will conduct the official review and retain authority over permitting decisions.

The city plans to share information about the service through its wildfire recovery communications, permitting resources and other channels serving affected residents.
