Registration for Long Beach's Fall Recreation Classes Begins August 3

Long Beach, CA – This fall, the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer more than 700 classes, activities, sports and leagues for people of all ages, abilities and interests. Registration for new and existing recreation classes begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, and can be accessed online, in person or by mail. Popular classes may fill up quickly, so residents are encouraged to register early to ensure a spot.

Below are select highlights of classes available to community members this fall. Classes begin in September and will continue through November.

Preschool – Classes give children five years and younger opportunities to learn new skills in a nurturing social setting.

• Parent and Me Pre-K Readiness – Kids will learn age-appropriate letter and number recognition, fine motor skills, phonics, math and enjoy outdoor games and play (ages 2 years, 4 months to 5 years).
• Mini Musical Theatre – Youngsters will perform adorable Broadway hits while learning to connect acting and emotions of the song to the choreography of the piece (ages 2 years, 7 months to 5 years).
• Tot Soccer – Little athletes will build motor skills through fun soccer games and enjoy running and kicking just like the big kids (ages 3 years, 6 months to 5 years).

Youth – Classes and camps that will keep your youngster engaged while enhancing their abilities in music, dancing, enrichment and sports.

• Karate, Shotokan – Kids will learn the traditions of this ancient art and become stronger, develop confidence and learn the customs and courtesies of Japanese culture (ages 5 to 13 years).
• Halloween Kids Choir – Kids will learn classic and current family-friendly Halloween songs and sing together in a fun, energetic environment with a special performance towards the end (ages 5 to 11 years).
• Let's Make a Short Film – Students write scripts, cast actors, rehearse scenes, and film their story while building teamwork, creativity and storytelling skills (ages 7 to 15 years).

Teens – Classes that support the enrichment and wellbeing of teens from music, art and fitness to life skills, dog training and more.

• Strength, Sweat and Stretch (new class) – A full-body workout with a combination of resistance training to build strength, cardio and agility to increase endurance, and yoga-inspired stretches for flexibility (ages 16 and up).
• Babysitter, First Aid, CPR and AED Training – Teens will learn life-saving skills and become the favorite babysitter every family wants (ages 11 and up).
• Teen Guitar – Teens will receive focused guidance while learning essential skills, chords and songs in a relaxed setting. Guitars provided in class (ages 12 to 16 years).

Adults – Classes for a wide range of adult ages – from arts and culture to fitness, sports and music – that encourage lifelong education, movement and healthy living.

• Tai Chi and Qigong – Adults will learn this peaceful, ancient Chinese exercise that relaxes the mind and body through slow, controlled movements (ages 18 and older).
• Dog Behavior Training 101 – Positive Reinforcement – Participants will learn foundation behaviors and basic commands used in real-life to help pets become a well-behaved family member (ages 10 and up).
• Salsa! Salsa!  – Adults will learn steps and styles in this action-packed Latin dance class to sizzle on all the dance floors (ages 18 and older).

Older Adults – Classes to support healthy bodies and cognitive minds while creating fun and engaging social connections.

• Senior Line Dancing – Older adults will have fun learning new dances, exercising and meeting new friends (ages 50 and older).
• Senior Fitness – Lightweight lifting followed by low-impact cardio in a fun, easy to follow aerobic workout (ages 50 and older).
• Spanish for Seniors – Learn practical conversation skills for travel, daily life and social interaction through engaging activities at a comfortable pace (ages 50 and older).

Beginning Aug. 3 at 8 a.m., community members can register for classes online by visiting LBParks.org and clicking on Online Registration under the LB RecConnect side menu button. Registration is also available in person at the Registration Reservations Office (2760 Studebaker Rd.), open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m.; or by mail (2760 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, CA 90815).

Beginning this week, the fall issue of Recreation Connection, PRM's recreation catalog, will be available online at LBParks.org. Hard copies will be available at Long Beach parks, community centers and Long Beach Public Library locations.
