Maryland: Nominations for the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame Now Open Through October 2

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 2, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced that they are currently accepting nominations for the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame. This prestigious award recognizes farm families who have made significant contributions to the state's agricultural industry. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, October 2, 2026.
According to Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks, the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame is a way to honor and celebrate those families who have not only built a lasting legacy in agriculture, but have also positively impacted their communities and helped ensure the future of farming in Maryland. Atticks stated, "This is a special opportunity to recognize those farm families whose hard work, innovation and commitment have left a lasting mark on Maryland agriculture."
Established in 1991, the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame has recognized 58 farms from all 23 counties in Maryland. The first inductees included C. Rodman and Jean Myers of Catoctin Mountain View Farm (Frederick County), Y.D. and Lonnie Hance of Taney Place Farm (Calvert County), and Roland and Mildred Darcey of Edgewood Farm (Prince George's County). Most recently, the McGinnis Family from Baltimore County was honored at this past February's ceremony.

To be considered for this prestigious award, applicants must work with their county nominating committee to showcase their family's agricultural leadership, community involvement, and advancements in areas such as soil and water conservation, marketing, machinery, and safety. The nomination package must also include signatures from their County Extension agent, County Farm Bureau President, and County Soil Conservation District Manager. All completed nominations must be submitted via mail by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, October 2nd to MDA Chief of Staff Harrison Palmer.
The selection committee for the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame includes representatives from the University of Maryland's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Maryland Farm Bureau, and an unbiased panel from the state's agricultural community. Only one farm family per county will be considered for the award. The 2026 inductee will be honored at the annual Taste of Maryland Agriculture event on February 4, 2027.
