Keeping Colorado Communities Safe: Governor Polis Signs Laws to Strengthen Public Safety, Takes Action on Bills
Rezul News/10736489
COLORADO SPRINGS ~ Colorado Governor Jared Polis visited the Colorado Springs Police Station today to sign two new laws aimed at strengthening public safety and making Colorado one of the top ten safest states in the country. The first law, SB26-072, was sponsored by Senators John Carson and Marc Snyder, as well as Representatives Cecelia Espenoza and Bob Marshall. This law increases penalties for vehicular homicide and assault, holding reckless and negligent drivers accountable for their actions.
Governor Polis emphasized the importance of road safety in keeping Coloradans and visitors safe while traveling across the state. He stated that no one should have to mourn the loss of a loved one due to a preventable accident. While this law cannot bring back those who have been lost, it sends a message that the state understands their loss and will hold those responsible accountable.

The second law signed by Governor Polis was HB26-1242, sponsored by Representatives Amy Paschal and Jamie Jackson, as well as Senators Dylan Roberts and John Carson. This law requires interlock devices for impaired drivers, preventing them from getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
Governor Polis condemned driving under the influence as dangerous, irresponsible, and unacceptable. He cited statistics that show 235 people died last year in crashes involving impaired drivers. With this new law in place, he hopes to prevent unnecessary tragedies by keeping impaired drivers off the roads.
The governor expressed his gratitude to the sponsors of both laws for their efforts in keeping Coloradans and visitors safe on the roads. He believes that these laws will save lives and prevent future tragedies caused by reckless or impaired driving.
In conclusion, Governor Polis's visit to Colorado Springs resulted in two important laws being signed into effect. These laws aim to strengthen public safety, hold reckless drivers accountable for their actions, and prevent unnecessary tragedies caused by impaired driving. With these measures in place, Colorado is taking steps towards becoming one of the top ten safest states in the country.
