Governor Abbott Reappoints Carr And Varma To The Texas Medical Board District Three Review Committee

~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Sharon Carr and Surendra Varma, M.D. to the Texas Medical Board (TMB) District Three Review Committee. Their terms are set to expire on January 15, 2032.
Carr, a resident of Canadian, brings a wealth of experience to the committee. She is retired and previously served as the director of the Hemphill County Juvenile Bootcamp. In addition, she currently holds the position of vice president on the board for Hemphill County Hospital and volunteers with Meals on Wheels. Carr holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Texas A&M University.
Joining Carr on the committee is Surendra Varma, M.D., who hails from Lubbock. Dr. Varma is currently the executive associate dean for graduate medical education at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). He also serves as a Grover E. Murray Professor and Ted Hartman Endowed Chair in Medical Education at TTUHSC.

Dr. Varma's impressive credentials include memberships in prestigious organizations such as the American Pediatric Society, Society for Pediatric Research, and Endocrine Society. He has also held leadership positions in organizations such as the American Diabetes Association and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Prior to his reappointment to the TMB District Three Review Committee, Dr. Varma served as a gubernatorial appointee on both the TMB itself and the Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from the University of Lucknow and went on to earn his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and Doctor of Medicine in Pediatrics from King George Medical University (KGMU).
With their extensive backgrounds in healthcare and dedication to serving their communities, both Sharon Carr and Surendra Varma are valuable additions to the TMB District Three Review Committee. Their terms will continue until January 15, 2032, ensuring their continued contributions to the important work of the committee.
