Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Makes Four Judicial Nominating Commission Appointments

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed four individuals to the First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission. The commission is responsible for recommending candidates for judicial appointments to the First District Court of Appeal.

Among the appointees is Jeff Aaron, a Founding Shareholder at DownsAaron in Tallahassee. With a bachelor's degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and a juris doctor from the University of Florida, Aaron brings a wealth of legal experience to the commission. He will serve on the commission until July 1, 2030.

Also joining the commission is Jason Hilborn, currently serving as Deputy Attorney General for the Florida Office of the Attorney General. Hilborn holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a juris doctor from Harvard Law School. He was appointed from a list of nominees recommended by the Florida Bar and will serve until July 1, 2030.

Lazaro Fields, Partner at Continental P.L.L.C., has also been appointed to the commission. Fields holds both a bachelor's degree and juris doctor from Florida State University. Like Hilborn, he was selected from a list of nominees recommended by the Florida Bar and will serve until July 1, 2030.

Lastly, Benjamin Gibson, Partner at Shutts & Bowen L.L.P., has been appointed for a shorter term ending on July 1, 2027. Gibson also holds both his bachelor's degree and juris doctor from Florida State University.

These appointments bring diverse backgrounds and extensive legal knowledge to the First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission. Their terms will play an important role in shaping future judicial appointments within the First District Court of Appeal.
