Desert Water SL and Planet Alpha Corp. map carbon for the country of Sierra Leone using satellite data for conservation and the creation of carbon
Rezul News/10677870
While remote sensing is well known for mapping imagery, NASA satellite data for CO2 offers new perspectives on carbon landscapes and carbon offsets based on direct measurement.
FREETOWN, Sierra Leone - Rezul -- Desert Water SL LTD, Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Planet Alpha Corp. of Cambridge, Massachusetts, have initiated a collaboration to map the net carbon stored per hectare across Sierra Leone. Diverse satellite data for directly measured CO2 and related ecological variables are determined by established scientific methods in contrast to estimation protocols that have been called into question.
"The intense interest in conservation of Sierra Leone's natural resources while creating revenue for landowners and landholders is challenged by the lack of information and transparency in the carbon project process. Financial barriers are severe, limiting success. Satellite carbon data, freely available, is a game-changer for Sierra Leoneans and the management of their natural resources," remarked Martin Kailie, Desert Water SL LTD CEO.

Large-scale satellite-based net carbon sequestration project development is driven by directly measured data for carbon tallied on an annual basis. In addition, prior knowledge of sequestered carbon organizes the project development process and may result in carbon offsets and revenue. Although many factors are involved in the creation of carbon offsets from satellite data, direct measurement is verifiable and freely available from NASA, an independent third-party, creating transparency and unambiguous carbon equity for Sierra Leoneans.
Bruno D.V. Marino, Planetary Emissions CEO, remarked, "We are seeing the consequences of poor-quality carbon offsets by a market decline of 61% in 2023. Satellite CO2 data can revolutionize carbon removal across the nature-based carbon sector. Our innovative products, or α-Biosphere Offset Tokens, can be sold across conventional voluntary, compliance, and, cryptocarbon markets, offering an example of much-needed improvement for the sector. It is my hope that Sierra Leoneans can utilize the new data for the common good and the planet, now and for future generations."
