Felician Sisters of North America Announce Partnership with City of Livonia, MHT for Senior Living Community
LIVONIA, Mich. - Rezul -- The Felician Sisters of North America have announced a collaborative partnership with the City of Livonia and MHT Housing Inc. to repurpose the western portion of the historic Presentation of Blessed Virgin Mary Convent in Livonia.
In keeping with its decades-long dedication to serving its community, this section of the convent will be transformed into new affordable housing for local seniors, thanks to the partnership and the awarding of vital tax credits from the State of Michigan.
Construction on the transformative project is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will preserve the legacy of the convent while addressing a critical need for affordable senior housing in the Livonia area. The first residents are expected to move in by spring 2027.
The tax credits, awarded by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), will support the adaptive reuse of the convent, creating a vibrant, affordable senior living community with approximately 69 units.
The renovation will preserve key architectural elements of the convent while incorporating modern amenities and sustainable design features to ensure residents' comfort and safety. The eastern portion of the convent will continue to be the home of the Felician Sisters who reside and serve in the Livonia area.

"MHT Housing is honored to be partners with the Felician Sisters of North America," said Van Fox, president of MHT Housing, Inc. "We remain focused on maintaining the beauty and elegance of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent and ensuring our seniors have a safe and dignified place to call home."
Livonia Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan added, "Affordable housing is a cornerstone of a thriving and equitable city. This partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when the public and private sectors come together to meet the needs of the community. The renovation of this convent will not only provide much needed housing for seniors but also preserve an important piece of our city's history."
The housing initiative aligns with the mission of the Felician Sisters to serve vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly, through innovative and sustainable approaches.
Sister Janet Marie Adamczyk, Provincial Vicar for the Felician Sisters of North America, expressed her gratitude for the partnership and the opportunity to continue serving the community. "For decades this convent has been a beacon of hope in Livonia. By transforming it into affordable housing for seniors, we are building on that legacy in a way that honors our mission and meets a pressing need in the community. We are deeply grateful to MHT Housing and the City for their shared vision and collaboration.
