Colorado Springs: Mayor Yemi's proposed 2027 City budget invests in public safety, infrastructure and essential City services
Rezul News/10747595
~ Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade presented the city's proposed 2027 budget to City Council, outlining investments in public safety, infrastructure and the municipal workforce.
The proposed General Fund budget anticipates $465.5 million in revenue, up $38.1 million from 2026. The city said inflation and rising costs continue to increase the expense of providing services, making fiscal discipline and protecting its financial foundation priorities.
"This budget is about taking care of the people, services and infrastructure our residents rely on every day," Mobolade said. He said the proposal invests in employees, public safety and essential infrastructure while aiming to use public funds responsibly.
The budget would eliminate required employee furloughs introduced in 2026 and provide $16.1 million for compensation and staffing support for civilian and sworn employees.
Public safety investments include $1.8 million from the Retail Marijuana Special Tax for police technology and equipment, and $3.9 million from that tax and the General Fund for fire apparatus replacement. The proposal also allocates $1.4 million for Clean and Safe partnerships intended to help keep public spaces safe, clean and welcoming.

The city plans to focus on maintaining existing infrastructure, including roads, parks, trails, public facilities and technology. The proposal includes a new citywide crew dedicated to pothole repairs, in addition to work by existing maintenance crews. It also continues roadway maintenance and investments in parks, trails and open spaces, and restores funding to open park restrooms in 2027 that were closed in 2026.
The budget includes $13.2 million in General Fund capital investment for city facilities and infrastructure, parks, roads and bridges, and technology.
Projected General Fund revenue includes $270.3 million from sales and use taxes and $28.1 million from property taxes. The city also plans to use dedicated funding sources, including 2C, the Public Safety Sales Tax, the Retail Marijuana Special Tax, TOPS and grants, to support specific services and preserve General Fund resources for core operations.
The proposal now goes to City Council for review and consideration. The budget and Mobolade's letter to council are available at ColoradoSprings.gov/Budget.
