Colorado: Governor Polis Signs Bills into Law

DENVER ~ Denver - In a busy day at the state capitol, Governor Polis signed a total of 30 bills into law. These new laws cover a wide range of topics, from transportation to education to public employee benefits.
One of the most significant bills signed was HB26-1043, which aims to prevent discriminatory practices by transportation network companies. This bill was sponsored by Representatives Gretchen Rydin and Amy Paschal, as well as Senator Cathy Kipp.
Another important piece of legislation is HB26-1026, which expands plan options for the Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). This bill was sponsored by Representatives Bob Marshall and Eliza Hamrick, and Senator Chris Kolker.
In an effort to clean up transportation statutes, Governor Polis also signed HB26-1076. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Amy Paschal and Mandy Lindsay, and Senator Matt Ball, aims to streamline regulations in the transportation industry.
In addition to these transportation-related bills, Governor Polis also signed several other important pieces of legislation. HB26-1102 provides funding for the Colorado DRIVES account and was sponsored by Representative Mandy Lindsay and Senator Marc Snyder. HB26-1113 makes modifications to election procedures and was sponsored by Representatives Emily Sirota and Jenny Willford, as well as Senators Katie Wallace and Mike Weissman.

Other notable bills include HB26-1227 which addresses minors' rights in dependency and neglect proceedings; HB26-1265 which establishes a national electronic tracing system for law enforcement; SB26-036 which focuses on prison population management measures; SB26-131 which provides protections for sports betting; and HB26-1433 which allocates funding for fire-related services.
Governor Polis also signed several bills related to education. These include HB26-1352 which reduces the frequency of evaluations under the Colorado Reading to Ensure Academic Development Act; HB26-1358 which reduces funding for the Academic Accelerator Grant Program; HB26-1359 which credits the state public school fund from natural resources; HB26-1361 which repeals the Pay for Success Program; HB26-1369 which repeals a contract for an online platform use; HB26-1371 which adds repeal dates for certain higher education programs; HB26-1383 which repeals the Employment Support Job Retention Program; HB26-1386 which provides funding for Colorado National Guard tuition waivers; HB26-1388 which repeals a bond assistance program fund transfer; HB26-1400 which adjusts allocations to trust funds for the Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA); HB26-1406 which repeals capital construction funding requirements; and HB26-1408 which establishes processes to determine state budget requests.

Additionally, SB26-131 provides protections for sick leave and military leave for certain public servants.
