Colorado: Governor Polis Signs Bills Into Law Administratively

DENVER ~ Denver - In a move to address various issues and concerns in the state, Governor Polis signed multiple bills into law today. These bills were sponsored by various representatives and senators and aim to bring about positive changes in different areas.

One of the bills signed by the governor is HB26-1123, which aims to prevent sexual abuse in jails. This bill was sponsored by Representatives Katie Stewart and Javier Mabrey, as well as Senators Judy Amabile and Mike Weissman. It seeks to protect inmates from any form of sexual abuse while they are incarcerated.

Another bill that was signed is HB26-1268, which focuses on renewable energy development on disturbed lands. This bill was sponsored by Representatives Karen McCormick and Lesley Smith, along with Senator William Lindstedt. It aims to promote the use of renewable energy sources on lands that have been previously disturbed.

In addition, HB26-1269 was also signed into law. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Naquetta Ricks and Junie Joseph, as well as Senators Janice Marchman and Adrienne Benavidez, focuses on transit access. It aims to improve access to public transportation for all individuals in the state.

Governor Polis also signed HB26-1290 into law today. This bill, sponsored by Representative Anthony Hartsook, House Majority Leader Monica Duran, and Senators Dylan Roberts and Senate Assistant Minority Leader Lisa Frizell, addresses the criminal offense of assault. It seeks to strengthen laws against assault in the state.

Another important bill that was signed is HB26-1309. Sponsored by Representatives Meg Froelich and Tammy Story, as well as Senator Katie Wallace, this bill focuses on abuse in cases of separation. It aims to protect individuals from any form of abuse during a separation or divorce.

In addition to these bills, Governor Polis also signed several others that cover a wide range of issues such as abortion medication access on college campuses, funding for prevention services programs, healthy school meals, and more. These include HB26-1374, which focuses on kinship care funding provisions; HB26-1376, which updates the Federal Adoption Money Cash Fund; HB26-1379, which fixes an incorrect citation in the Judicial Stabilization Fund; HB26-1381, which eliminates a cash balance requirement in the Judicial Cash Fund; HB26-1385, which establishes a public defender and prosecutor behavioral health program; HB26-1389, which provides grant appropriations for comprehensive human sexuality education; and finally HB26-1404, which transfers funds from the Tobacco Education Fund to the Preschool Program Fund.

These bills were all sponsored by various representatives and senators who are committed to bringing about positive changes in their communities. With Governor Polis's signature today, these bills will now become law in Colorado.
