Colorado: Governor Polis Meets with Union Leadership at Fort Morgan Lockout, Visits Workers on Picket Line
Rezul News/10740151
FORT MORGAN, Colo. ~ Fort Morgan, Colorado - Governor Jared Polis made a visit to the picket line today to show his support for the workers of Cargill's beef processing plant. He also met with representatives from the Teamsters Local 455 union to discuss the ongoing lockout that has left over 1,700 workers without jobs for nearly two months.
During his visit, Governor Polis emphasized the importance of finding a sustainable solution and urged Cargill to return to the negotiating table. The plant is a major employer in Fort Morgan and plays a significant role in the local economy of Morgan County and Northeast Colorado.
"This isn't just about negotiations, it's about Colorado families who rely on these jobs to support their children, pay their bills, and build their futures," said Governor Polis.

The lockout began on May 20, 2026, after a majority of union members voted down Cargill's offer which included a wage increase of $2.15 per hour over five years and ratification bonuses. Despite efforts from both sides, Cargill has not altered their final offer.
While the State of Colorado and Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) do not have a formal role in resolving this strike, Governor Polis and his team have been in communication with both Teamsters and Cargill leadership throughout the process. They have encouraged all parties to continue negotiations in order to reach a collaborative solution that will allow workers to return to their jobs.
In the meantime, workers may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits through the Department. The Governor remains committed to supporting these workers and finding a resolution that benefits all parties involved.
