LEADVILLE ~ Leadville, Colorado - Governor Jared Polis visited Leadville today to meet with local leaders, businesses, and emergency responders and commend them for their swift and successful response to the Willow Fire. The Governor also took the opportunity to highlight Leadville's strong recreational and tourism industry.

In a statement, Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for the firefighters and first responders who have been working tirelessly to protect communities and keep Coloradans safe during this challenging wildfire season. The Governor first declared a verbal disaster for the Willow Fire in Lake County on June 29th, 2026. On July 5th, he announced that the fire had been authorized for a Fire Management Assistance Grant, which allows the state to be reimbursed up to 75% for firefighting costs. To formalize this declaration, Governor Polis issued an Executive Order on August 2nd, 2026.
