City of Long Beach Facilities and Services Schedule for Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - As the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday approaches on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, the City of Long Beach has announced its schedule for facilities and services in observance of this important day.
According to the city's press release, several facilities and services will remain open on Monday, Jan. 19. These include all City parks and trails (excluding El Dorado Nature Center), El Dorado East Regional Park, Fire Stations and Lifeguard Stations, Long Beach Airport, Long Beach Animal Care Services Animal Control Officers (562.570.7387) for emergency services, Main Police Station Front Desk, Marina offices (Alamitos Bay Marina and Shoreline Marina), Gas Services Dispatch (562.570.2140) for emergency calls, and Water/Sewer Dispatch (562.570.2390) for emergency calls.
However, there are also several closures to note on Monday, Jan. 19. These include the Billie Jean King Main Library and all branch libraries (digital resources will still be available 24/7), BizCare Hotline (562.570.4BIZ), Building and Safety services including the Permit Center and inspections/plan reviews, City Hall offices and public services such as the Permit Center (located on 2nd floor), Cashiering/Payment Processing, Utility Customer Service/Billing/Collections/Parking Citations.

Other closures include City-operated pools, City Prosecutor's Office, Code Enforcement services, Economic Development & Opportunity's Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network Adult and Youth Career Services Centers, El Dorado Nature Center (regularly closed Mondays), Energy and Environmental Services offices,
Fire Headquarters/Support Services/Fire Prevention & Operations/Marine Safety Administration,
Health Department/Health facilities,
Homeless Services Outreach Line (562.570.4672),
Housing Authority,
Long Beach Airport Administration Offices,
Long Beach Animal Care Services and spcaLA (regularly closed Mondays and Tuesdays),

City Hall offices will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, including commercial services typically available at City Hall such as the Permit Center (located on 2nd floor), Cashiering/Payment Processing, Utility Customer Service/Billing/Collections/Parking Citations. The public is encouraged to utilize the convenient online resources available on the City website for building permit services and bill payment options.

In addition, there will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Monday, Jan. 19. Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Parking enforcement will still be in effect for citywide parking violations on Monday, Jan. 19 unless the meter states "Exempt on Holidays." The days and hours of enforcement are displayed inside the meters.
Refuse and recycling will still be collected as scheduled on Monday, Jan. 19 (except for oversized items and special collections pick-ups conducted by the Clean Team).
The Towing Operations and Vehicle Storage Facility (3111 E. Willow St., between Temple Avenue and Redondo Avenue) will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 19. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sunday and holidays. Vehicles and property can still be released outside of these hours for an additional fee.
Lastly, all Long Beach Public Library locations and services including the main phone line will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 17 and Monday, Jan. 19. Library patrons are encouraged to utilize the Library's digital resources, including the catalog, downloads, and databases, which are available 24/7.
