City of Boston Announces Return of 'Color Flows' Activations Downtown For Residents and Visitors to Enjoy This Summer

~ The City of Boston is bringing back a popular program, 'Color Flows', to Winter Street in Downtown Crossing and expanding it to Liberty Tree Plaza in Chinatown. This initiative aims to transform these areas into vibrant and engaging spaces through colorful art installations, food trucks, and cultural programming over the next few months. This effort is part of the city's larger plan to reimagine its streets and pedestrian zones for a safer and more enjoyable experience for all.
Mayor Michelle Wu expressed her excitement about the return of 'Color Flows' and its expansion to Chinatown. She stated, "As we continue reimagining our streets and pedestrian areas, we're excited to welcome back Color Flows and expand this vibrant activation of arts and culture to Liberty Tree Plaza in Chinatown." She also highlighted how these installations honor the unique cultures that make up Boston's diverse neighborhoods.
Chief of Planning Kairos Shen also shared his enthusiasm for the program's return. He said, "I'm excited for the Planning Department to bring back the successful Color Flows on Winter Street and expand the program to our newest location in Chinatown on the historic Liberty Tree Plaza." He emphasized how this program brings communities together and showcases the potential of pedestrian zones as places for community-building and play.

On Winter Street, visitors can enjoy public art, lighting, food trucks, colorful seating, plantings, and light pop-up programming suitable for all ages. The street mural and other public art are created by Sabrina Dorsainvil. 'Color Flows on Winter Street' will take place daily from 11 am-6 pm from June 11-October 31.
In Chinatown, 'Color Flows at Liberty Tree Plaza' will feature public art installations by Ivy Wong, Ashley Jin, and Lani Asunción. The theme for these installations is 'With Care', prompting artists to interpret what care looks like in the beloved neighborhood of Chinatown. The plaza will also host cultural programming such as Tai Chi, Lion Dancing, martial arts, musical instruments, arts and crafts, storytime, and music time. 'Color Flows at Liberty Tree Plaza' will take place daily from 10 am-5 pm from June 11-August 1.
President of the Downtown Boston Alliance Michael J. Nichols expressed his organization's pride in partnering with the City of Boston to bring back 'Color Flows' for this historic summer. He stated, "This project animates a vital corridor, and we are excited to help leverage its success to support Downtown Crossing's businesses, celebrate local artists, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for millions of global visitors this summer."

This summer, Boston is expecting visitors from around the world as it hosts major events like the FIFA World Cup 2026™ fan festival, Sail Boston, and Boston 250. From large-scale celebrations to community-based programming like watch parties and small business activations, the city is creating dynamic and welcoming experiences in every corner.
