California: Governor Newsom proclaims Patriot Day
Rezul News/10745314
~ Sacramento, CA - Governor Gavin Newsom has declared September 11, 2026 as "Patriot Day" in the State of California. This proclamation comes on the 25th anniversary of the tragic terror attacks that shook the nation and claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people.
In a solemn statement, Governor Newsom reflected on the impact of these attacks and how they forever changed the lives of those affected. He also highlighted the acts of courage and selflessness that emerged in the face of fear and uncertainty.
"Twenty-five years ago, our country was forever changed by the terror attacks in New York City, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania," said Governor Newsom. "We lost 3,000 innocent lives, including 36 Californians, and our sense of security was shattered. But amidst this devastation, we also saw acts of extraordinary courage. First responders ran towards danger and everyday people risked their lives to help strangers."

The governor emphasized the importance of remembering not only those who were lost but also those who stepped up to help in a time of crisis. He urged future generations to understand both the magnitude of what happened and the bravery shown by Americans in its aftermath.
"It is our responsibility to ensure that these lives are never just names in a textbook," stated Governor Newsom. "We must honor their memory by teaching future generations about their sacrifice and bravery."
In honor of Patriot Day, all flags on state buildings will be flown at half-staff on September 11th. This gesture serves as a reminder to Californians to reflect on this tragic event and pay tribute to those who lost their lives.
The proclamation was signed by Governor Newsom on September 10th with Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber as a witness.
This news comes amidst other recent announcements from Governor Newsom's office regarding new legislation aimed at protecting children online. The governor signed historic bipartisan laws that will strengthen California's child safety chatbot and social media regulations, making them the strongest in the nation.
