California: Governor, First Partner statement on the passing of David Hockney

~ Sacramento, CA - On June 12, 2026, Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom expressed their condolences on the passing of renowned multi-media artist David Hockney. Hockney was a member of the California Hall of Fame and known for his vibrant and colorful works that captured the essence of his subjects and landscapes.
In a joint statement, the Governor and First Partner described Hockney as "immensely creative, curious, and generous with his art and his joy." They also highlighted his influence in both the 20th and 21st centuries, inspiring artists and viewers alike.
Originally from Britain, Hockney made Los Angeles his home and was known for incorporating the California sunshine into his art. The Governor and First Partner noted that he "soaked up" this warmth from the state and gave it back to the world tenfold.

Meanwhile, as President Trump continues to delay action on addressing water contamination at the border, Governor Newsom has taken action by providing $46 million in funding. This money will target contamination in both the Tijuana River and New River while also urging Trump to repair federally managed infrastructure at the center of this crisis.
Lastly, Governor Newsom has proclaimed June 10-14 as "California State Parks Week." In a proclamation issued today, he recognized the diverse wonders of California's 280 state parks and encouraged residents to take advantage of these natural treasures.
