The resolution says Massachusetts recorded 354 traffic deaths in 2025. Pedestrians accounted for 21% of those deaths. Of the 76 pedestrians killed, 62% died in environmental justice communities and 43% were 65 or older, according to the resolution.

The City of Boston's Vision Zero Dashboard reports nearly 600 pedestrian-involved crashes requiring an emergency medical services response and more than 200 crashes involving cyclists.

Ride for Your Life was founded to remember people lost to traffic violence and organize collective action for safer streets. Its annual events, held in cities across the country, include group rides and walks to government centers to call for policy changes.

The organization plans to hold its annual Boston event on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026. Participants will ride, walk and rally for changes the group says can help save lives.
