Boston: Council Calls for Critical-Incident Administrative Leave Standards Following In-Custody Death of Shacoby Kenny

The Council has adopted a resolution urging the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department to implement critical-incident administrative leave standards.

The resolution was prompted by the death of Shacoby Kenny on December 8, 2025, following an altercation and physical restraint involving correctional officers. The Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Mr. Kenny's death to be a homicide caused by physical restraint from correctional officers. However, it is important to note that this determination does not determine criminal liability and that the Attorney General's criminal investigation is still ongoing.
