Writer in Residence Office Hours and Workshops at Mesa Public Library

~ Mesa Public Library is offering aspiring writers a unique opportunity to improve their skills with the help of a published author. As part of the Writer in Residence Program, author Kara McDowell will be utilizing the Gateway Library as her public workspace through December. McDowell will be offering one-on-one consultations and hosting workshops to assist both emerging and experienced writers in honing their craft.

The Writer in Residence Consultation Hours will provide writers with the chance to receive personalized feedback on their work from McDowell. These 30-minute consultations will be available on various dates and times throughout December. Appointments are required and can be booked through the library's event calendar.

In addition to consultations, McDowell will also be hosting several workshops at the Gateway Library. On Saturday, September 19th, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., she will lead a workshop on writing romance novels. This workshop will explore the romance genre, cover basic writing rules, discuss character development, and share resources for writers.

On Thursday, October 1st, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., McDowell will offer a workshop titled "How to Take a Book from First to Last Draft." This workshop is perfect for those who have an idea for a story but are unsure of how to turn it into a finished book. Participants will learn practical tips and strategies for developing their first draft through revision, editing, and polishing their manuscript.

For those looking for guidance on maintaining joy and creativity while pursuing a writing career, McDowell's workshop "Preserving Joy on Your Writing Journey" is not one to miss. This workshop will take place on Saturday, October 24th from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Kara McDowell is an accomplished author of romantic comedies for both adults and teens. Her works include "One Way or Another," "The Prince & The Apocalypse" series, and "The Write Off." She currently resides in Mesa.
