Welcoming All in Colorado: Four New Participants Selected for CTO's Accessible Travel Program
Rezul News/10717965
DENVER – Today, the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO), a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), announced four new participants for the Accessible Travel Program: Snowmass Tourism and Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Town of Mountain Village, Visit Durango and Visit Estes Park. The Accessible Travel Program advances accessible tourism in destinations across Colorado in partnership with Wheel the World, a travel platform specializing in accessible tourism.
"Through the Accessible Travel Program, Colorado is showing the nation what inclusive travel can look like when accessibility is built into every experience," said Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera. "These communities are setting a powerful example that everyone — residents and visitors alike — deserves to explore the beauty and amazing opportunities across Colorado."
Colorado continues to be a national leader in welcoming all travelers. Today's announcement follows a September travel week co-hosted by the Colorado Tourism Office and Wheel the World to spotlight accessibility in Colorado. The curated, multi-day destination tour and retreat united more than 20 accessibility advocates, influencers, journalists, and Colorado tourism leaders for a series of adaptive outdoor adventures, culinary and cultural experiences, and meaningful conversations about accessibility in travel.
"Colorado is committed to creating a welcoming and accessible environment for our visitors and residents who want to explore the beauty and experiences our state has to offer," said Eve Lieberman, OEDIT Executive Director. "Through the Accessible Travel Program, the Colorado Tourism Office is leading the way in making travel more inclusive and strengthening Colorado's reputation as a destination for all. Their outstanding commitment ensures everyone feels included and celebrated in Colorado."

Through the Accessible Travel Program, selected destinations receive on-site accessibility assessments, specialized training for hospitality professionals, and marketing support to promote Destination Verified accessible sites on Wheel the World's platform and colorado.com. Accessibly verified businesses also earn a digital badge.
Last year, Glenwood Springs, Pueblo, and Beaver Creek completed the Accessible Travel Program. This initiative led to 70 tourism sites achieving Destination Verified accessibility status, encompassing attractions, accommodations, restaurants, retail, trails, guide services, and gondolas. During the September travel week, Denver received Destination Verified accessibility status.
"The Accessible Travel Program showcases Colorado's commitment to removing barriers and creating more accessible experiences for all visitors to Colorado. By fostering greater connection and new opportunities for travelers, we also strengthen local tourism economies. That's a win for visitors and a win for the Colorado communities that welcome them," said Timothy Wolfe, Director of the Colorado Tourism Office.
The CTO and Wheel the World will work closely with each selected destination to ensure successful implementation of the program and foster ongoing accessibility efforts. The initiative grew out of the groundbreaking Colorado Destination Stewardship Strategic Plan, a 10-year plan that aims to enhance responsible and inclusive tourism across the state and resulted from a yearlong planning initiative engaging over 1,000 stakeholders across Colorado.
