Water Tower at Mesa Main Library Puts Daily Water Use in Perspective

The 16 ~ Mesa, AZ- As the Southwest continues to face prolonged drought and challenges with the Colorado River, the importance of using water wisely remains at the forefront for residents. To help educate and inspire individuals to make a difference, the Water - Use It Wisely Water Tower is on display at the Mesa Main Library until September.

The 16-foot display, made from 120 one-gallon jugs, provides a tangible representation of everyday water use and offers practical resources for residents to make water-wise choices in their own homes. The tower is located at 64 E. 1st St and is open for viewing during regular library hours.

One of the main areas where individuals can make a significant impact on water conservation is in outdoor usage. To assist with this, visitors can pick up a free copy of "Landscape Watering by the Numbers: A Guide for the Arizona Desert" at the display. This guide takes the guesswork out of landscape watering with simple, science-based techniques that promote healthier plants while also saving water and lowering utility bills. Additional resources on water conservation will also be available.

For those unable to visit the Main Library, free copies of the guide can be obtained at various locations throughout Mesa including participating nurseries such as A&P Nursery (Baseline & Brown Road locations), SummerWinds Nursery, Treeland Nursery, and Moon Valley Nursery. Copies are also available at Mesa Libraries including Dobson Ranch, Gateway, Mesa Main, and Red Mountain as well as City of Mesa Customer Service at 55 N. Center St.

In addition to physical resources, residents can also access digital guides and companion resources online at wateruseitwisely.com/HowToWater.

To further promote efficient landscape watering practices, a free program will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Saguaro Room at Mesa Main Library. Titled "Take the Guesswork Out of Watering in the Desert," this program will introduce simple techniques for determining when, how often, and how much to water. Whether individuals are new to desert gardening or looking to improve their watering practices, they will leave with practical tools and resources. Attendees will also have the chance to win a signed book by Arizona Plant Lady Noelle Johnson or a $50 gift card to a local nursery. Registration is not required for this event.
