Texas: Governor Abbott Submits Request For Reimbursement Of State Border Security Costs
Rezul News/10738782
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that Texas has taken the necessary steps to seek reimbursement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for expenses incurred while securing the border. This move comes after the state spent over $10 billion in taxpayer money to address the crisis at the southern border caused by the Biden Administration's failure to take action.
The governor launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021, with the aim of filling in the gaps left by the federal government's open-border policies. "For four years under Biden, Texas spent more than $10 billion of taxpayer money to secure the border," stated Governor Abbott. "I have formally submitted Texas' application to the Department of Homeland Security for reimbursement of costs Texas had to incur because President Biden refused to do his job."

Since its launch, Operation Lone Star has seen National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers deployed, border barriers built, and technology utilized to prevent illegal crossings and catch criminals. The state has taken on these responsibilities after the Biden Administration's actions led to a crisis at the southern border.
The federal government has allocated funds through the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) to reimburse states for their border security expenses. These funds are being managed by DHS and the Department of Justice (DOJ), with applications opening earlier this month. As Texas bore a significant portion of these costs, Governor Abbott's submission puts them in a position to recover taxpayer funds and return them back to hardworking Texans. The state also plans on applying for reimbursement from DOJ in the near future.
Governor Abbott is committed to working with Texas' congressional delegation, former President Trump, and federal agencies to ensure that full reimbursement is received as quickly as possible. With this move, Texas hopes to alleviate some of its financial burden and continue its efforts towards securing its borders.
