Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Border Security Disaster Proclamation In December 2025

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed his disaster proclamation for a number of counties and state agencies affected by the ongoing surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border. The proclamation, originally issued on May 31, 2021, was amended in subsequent proclamations to include additional affected counties.

Under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott certified that the surge of individuals crossing the border posed an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster for a number of Texas counties and state agencies. This led to the initial disaster proclamation being issued.

Since then, Governor Abbott has continued to monitor the situation and has deemed that the certified conditions still exist and pose a threat of disaster as outlined in previous proclamations. As a result, he has officially renewed the proclamation and declared a state of disaster for 75 counties and all state agencies affected by this ongoing crisis.

The affected counties include Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, Brooks, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Coleman, Colorado, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, DeWitt, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, El Paso,Frio,Galveston,Goliad,Gonzales,Hidalgo,Hudspeth,Jackson,

All orders, directions, suspensions, and authorizations provided in the original proclamation and subsequent amendments will remain in full force and effect. Copies of the proclamation will be filed with the appropriate authorities as required by law.

Governor Abbott's signature and the official Seal of State were affixed to the proclamation on December 18, 2025, at his office in Austin, Texas. The Secretary of State, Jane Nelson, attested to the document.
