Texas: Governor Abbott Renews Border Security Disaster Proclamation In October 2025

~ Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has renewed his disaster proclamation for a number of counties and state agencies affected by the ongoing surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border. The proclamation, originally issued on May 31, 2021, was amended in subsequent proclamations to include additional affected counties.
Under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott certified that the influx of individuals crossing the border posed an imminent threat of disaster for multiple counties and state agencies. This threat continues to exist and has been declared a disaster for Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, Brooks, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Coleman, Colorado, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, DeWitt and many other counties.
The governor's proclamation also includes all state agencies affected by this disaster. All orders and directions provided in the original proclamation and subsequent amendments remain in full force and effect.

In accordance with statutory requirements, copies of this proclamation have been filed with applicable authorities. The governor's signature and official seal were affixed at his office in Austin on October 19th, 2025.
This renewal comes as no surprise as the surge of unlawful crossings at the Texas-Mexico border continues to be a pressing issue for the state. Governor Abbott has consistently taken action to address this crisis and protect the affected communities.

This declaration serves as a reminder that despite ongoing efforts to address immigration policies at a federal level, states like Texas are still facing significant challenges due to illegal border crossings.
