Texas: Governor Abbott Mobilizes Additional State Wildfire Response Resources Amid Ongoing Fire Danger
Rezul News/10717977
~ In response to the ongoing threat of wildfires across large portions of Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to mobilize additional state resources. The governor's swift action comes as the state faces a rapid onset of drought and elevated fire potential.
"Texas is taking swift action against potential wildfire threats across our state," said Governor Abbott. "Today, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to mobilize additional state wildfire response resources to assist local communities with any potential wildfire outbreaks."
The Texas A&M Forest Service has reported that the combination of drought, dry vegetation, and frequent fire weather events has led to an increased risk of wildfires. Over the next several days, high winds, above-average temperatures, and critically dry vegetation are expected to contribute to heightened wildfire activity statewide.
The Wildland Fire Preparedness Level remains at Level 3, indicating that multiple regions in the state are currently impacted by wildfires. In just the past week, over 80 wildfires have burned more than 1,800 acres across Texas.

At the direction of Governor Abbott, various state emergency response resources are available to support local wildfire response operations. These include over 450 firefighters and support personnel from both in-state and out-of-state agencies, as well as more than 150 pieces of equipment such as fire engines and bulldozers. Additionally, there are over 35 federally contracted firefighting aircraft ready for deployment.
Other state agencies have also been activated to assist with wildfire response efforts. The Texas Department of State Health Services has Wildland Fire Support Packages consisting of medics, ambulances, and all-terrain vehicles on standby. The State of Texas Incident Management Team is also ready to support deployed emergency response resources across the state.
Various other agencies are also monitoring conditions and providing assistance where needed. These include personnel from the Texas Department of Transportation monitoring road conditions and assisting stranded motorists; Texas Highway Patrol Troopers patrolling roadways; and game wardens and state park police from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Animal Health Commission are also providing support for agricultural and livestock needs, while the Public Utility Commission of Texas is monitoring power outages and coordinating with utility providers. The Railroad Commission of Texas is keeping a close eye on the state's natural gas supply, while the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is monitoring air, water, and wastewater conditions.
In addition to the threat of wildfires, the Texas Emergency Management Council is also monitoring severe weather potential across North and Northeast Texas over the weekend. Texans are advised to stay informed and follow instructions from emergency officials as thunderstorms, large hail, damaging winds, possible tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding are all possible.
Governor Abbott urges all Texans to take necessary precautions to prevent wildfires and be prepared in case of an emergency. This includes creating an emergency plan, staying informed about local conditions, and keeping emergency supplies readily available. Governor Abbott continues to take action to protect Texans from the effects of wildfires by amending the state's disaster declaration for wildfire impacts, activating additional response resources ahead of increased threats, and directing TDEM to activate state wildfire response resources. The governor's priority remains ensuring the safety of all Texans during this dangerous time.
