Texas: Governor Abbott Honors Flood Victims At Kerrville Remembrance & Resilience Ceremony

~ Kerrville, TX- On the one-year anniversary of the devastating Fourth of July floods that claimed 119 lives in Kerr County, Governor Greg Abbott delivered a heartfelt speech and personally read the names of those who were lost. The ceremony, titled Symphony of the Hills Stars, Stripes, and Spirit Remembrance & Resilience Ceremony and concert, aimed to honor the victims while also celebrating the strength and unity of the Hill Country community.
In his speech at Cailloux Theater, Governor Abbott expressed his condolences for the families who lost loved ones in the tragedy. He stated, "One year ago, the waters rose and the Hill Country faced its darkest Fourth of July. Lives were cut short. Families lost everything." The Governor emphasized that these names are not just names but represent fathers, mothers, children, and neighbors who will never be forgotten.
The Governor was joined by First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring Jr., Symphony of the Hills President Dr. Tim Summerlin, State Representative Wes Virdell, local officials, families, and members of the Kerrville community at Cailloux Theater for this solemn event.

During his remarks, Governor Abbott praised the resilience of the Kerr County community in facing such a tragedy. He commended their strength, compassion, and determination throughout the past year of recovery. The Governor also highlighted how their unity and perseverance set a powerful example for the entire state.
As America celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence this year, Governor Abbott reflected on its profound significance. He reminded everyone that 250 years ago a group of patriots signed a document that changed human history forever. These extraordinary individuals pledged their lives to uphold the truth that liberty is not a gift from government but a birthright from Almighty God.
Over the past year since this tragedy struck Kerr County, Governor Abbott has been actively involved in directing significant state resources to support immediate recovery and long-term rebuilding efforts. He has closely coordinated with local leaders, federal partners, and nonprofits to provide emergency grants, small business assistance, and direct aid to impacted families and communities.
